A Cream Blossom Silk Bandana With Fine Flowering Branches

Thin, dark branches cross the cream ground in mirrored sprays, as if one flowering twig had been reflected from the center toward each corner. Along them sit small ruffled blooms and round buds in coral and orange, a few paler pink and white flowers, and little sage-green leaves. Much of the cream is left bare, so the print reads light and airy. A cream band borders the square, and where a corner is turned back, the sprays reappear in a paler wash on the reverse.

Where to Tie a Botanical Silk Scarf

As a headband, it runs over the top of the head to a knot above the ear, one end pointing back, the other dropping beside the ear. Spread over the hair as a kerchief, it fastens at the nape, and the cream border meets in a point above the knot. Care instructions

Silk is a protein fiber. Treat it the way you treat hair.

  1. Hand wash, coldTwo minutes in cold water with a detergent made for silk or wool.
  2. Never a biological detergentIts enzymes break down protein, and silk is protein. No bleach either.
  3. Press, then dry flatRoll it in a towel to take the water out. Never wring it.
  4. Out of the sunDirect light fades dye. Dry it flat in the shade, not on a radiator.
  5. Iron damp, on the reverseLowest setting, no steam, and keep the iron off the hem.
  6. Store it loosely rolledRolled loosely in a drawer, away from light. A tight fold leaves a crease.

Dry cleaning works too: ask for silk, no solvent on the hem.
