Show moreWhich silk neck scarf for which knot
Pick a silk neck scarf by the knot you want, because each size here leads to a different one. From the narrow bow to the loose loop, this is how they sit at the neck.
Skinny scarf: the bow
The skinny scarf is 2 in (5 cm) wide and 33.5 to 35.5 in (85 to 90 cm) long, enough to go once around the neck and finish in a small bow at the front or to one side. Under a shirt collar it can also be knotted like a tie, the ends hanging flat. It is the neck scarf for women who want a line of print rather than a volume of silk. The prints, often in several colorways, are in our skinny silk scarves.
Bandana: the triangle
The 21 in (53 cm) bandana is the silk neckerchief of the range. Fold it into a triangle, put the point at the front and knot the ends behind the neck, or turn it so the point falls over one collarbone. Worn this way, the two bordered sides of the triangle frame the point, and the scarf fills an open collar or a crew neckline without bulk. The full range is in our silk bandanas, and the paisley ones are worn western style.

Small square: the front knot
A small silk neck scarf, 25.5 to 27.5 in (65 to 70 cm), is folded into a band rather than a triangle. Wrap it once around the neck and tie a square knot at the front, or slightly off center, so the two ends point out to the sides. It sits higher than a bandana, close to the throat, with the knot as the focus. Eight knots that hold. They sit with the other sizes in our silk square scarves.
Larger squares: the loose loop
The 35.5 in (90 cm) square and the 43.5 in (110 cm) large square tie at the neck too, with more volume. Fold one into a long band, loop it twice and let the knot sit low, or drape it as a triangle with the point down the front under an open coat. These are the sizes to wear over a coat collar in winter. Compare the sizes. The biggest are in our large silk scarves.
Questions about tying a silk neck scarf
Which neck scarf suits a short neck?
A narrow one, worn low. A skinny scarf tied in a loose bow below the collarbone, or a bandana triangle with its point down, draws a vertical line. Thick loops high on the throat, like a choker or a doubled large square, shorten the neck instead.
What neckline suits a scarf knotted at the front?
A crew neck, a boat neck or a high round collar, where the knot sits on fabric rather than on skin. With a deep V-neck, a bandana triangle fills the opening more neatly, its point following the line of the V.
Is a skinny scarf long enough to wrap twice around the neck?
Yes, but twice around leaves short ends, enough for a single knot and not for a bow. For a bow with tails, go once around: at 33.5 to 35.5 in (85 to 90 cm), the scarf leaves plenty on each side.
How do I wear a neck scarf with a blazer?
Keep it flat and small inside the lapels. A bandana folded into a triangle sits in the open collar, point down; a small square folded into a band knots at the front of the throat; a skinny scarf ties in a bow at a shirt collar under the blazer.
How do I wear a silk scarf as a choker?
Take a skinny scarf, or fold a small square into a band about 1 in (2.5 cm) wide. Wrap it twice around the neck, close but never tight, and knot it at the side with the ends kept short. The larger squares are too bulky for this look.
