A Solid Blue Silk Bandana in Periwinkle

No print, no border: just one even shade of periwinkle, a blue with a hint of violet in it. The silk has a soft sheen that turns lighter on the curves and deeper in the folds, which is what gives a plain square its depth. The edge is finished with a narrow stitched hem that stays discreet once the bandana is knotted. Turn back a corner and the reverse shows a much paler, almost icy blue.

Knot it beside the neck, slightly off-center, and let the point drop onto the chest, a clean block of color against a white top. Folded into a band, it circles the head and knots up above the ear. Care instructions

Silk is a protein fiber. Treat it the way you treat hair.

  1. Hand wash, coldTwo minutes in cold water with a detergent made for silk or wool.
  2. Never a biological detergentIts enzymes break down protein, and silk is protein. No bleach either.
  3. Press, then dry flatRoll it in a towel to take the water out. Never wring it.
  4. Out of the sunDirect light fades dye. Dry it flat in the shade, not on a radiator.
  5. Iron damp, on the reverseLowest setting, no steam, and keep the iron off the hem.
  6. Store it loosely rolledRolled loosely in a drawer, away from light. A tight fold leaves a crease.

Dry cleaning works too: ask for silk, no solvent on the hem.
