Shipping and delivery

6 answers

Times, costs and tracking, for the United States.

  • When does my order ship?Within 1 to 3 business days.

We prepare and hand over parcels 1 to 3 business days after the order is placed. You get a shipping confirmation with a tracking number the moment it leaves.

  • How long does delivery take?1 to 18 business days across the United States, on top of preparation.

Most parcels arrive well inside that window. We publish the wide range on purpose: it covers holidays, customs checks and carrier backlogs, and we would rather state it than promise a date we cannot hold. Shipping & Delivery

  • How much does shipping cost?Standard: $5.95 in the continental US, $9.95 to Alaska and Hawaii, free from $50 either way. Priority: $9.90, or $13.90 to Alaska and Hawaii.

Priority Shipping is prepared ahead of standard orders, then travels in the same 1 to 18 business days. You see the exact shipping cost at checkout, before you pay. Shipping & Delivery

  • Will I get a tracking number?Yes, in the shipping confirmation email.

Enter your order number and email on our tracking page to follow the parcel. With an account, the tracking is also in your order history. Nothing has moved for a week? Write to us and we open a case with the carrier.

  • I ordered several scarves and only one arrived. An order can leave in more than one parcel.

Nothing is missing: the rest is on its way and each parcel has its own tracking. If a second parcel has not shown up a week after the first, tell us.

  • Do you ship outside the United States? No. We ship to US addresses only.

Our rates and delivery times are set for the United States, Alaska and Hawaii included. Shipping & Delivery

Returns and refunds

7 answers

How to send a scarf back, who pays, and when the money lands.

  • What is your return policy?14 days from receipt, unworn and in the state you received it.

It applies to everything, including sale items. Past 14 days we cannot refund. Returns & Refunds

  • How do I start a return?Ask us first — every return needs an authorization.

Email contact@silk-scarfs.com with your order number and the scarves you want to send back. We reply with the instructions and, where it applies, a label. From that moment you have 14 days to post the scarf back.

  • Who pays for the return? You do, unless the scarf arrived faulty or damaged.

A faulty scarf gets a prepaid label from us. A change of mind or a size that did not work is at your cost. We say it plainly rather than let you discover it at the post office.

  • Where do I send it?50 Avenue des Champs-Élysées, 75008 Paris, France.

Wait for the return authorization before you post anything. A parcel that arrives on its own cannot be matched to an order, and we cannot refund what we cannot identify.

  • When do I get my money back?3 to 7 business days after we receive and inspect the parcel.

It goes back the way you paid: the same card or the same wallet. Paid with a gift card? The refund comes back as a new e-gift card. There is no restocking fee — you get the full value of what you sent back.

  • Can I exchange for another size? No. We do not run direct exchanges.

Send the scarf back for a refund and place a new order for the size you want. That way the new one leaves straight away instead of waiting for a parcel to cross back.

  • Can I return a gift?Yes, within the same 14 days.

If the scarf was shipped straight to you, write to us with the order number: once it reaches us, you receive a gift credit for its value. Otherwise the refund goes back to the person who bought it. Returns & Refunds

Order problems

6 answers

A parcel that has not moved, a missing email, a wrong address, something broken.

  • I did not get a confirmation email.Check your spam and promotions folders first.

It is sent as soon as the order goes through, to the address typed at checkout. Still nothing after an hour? Write to contact@silk-scarfs.com with your name and the email you used — a typo in the address is the usual cause, and we can resend it.

  • My tracking has not moved.Give it a week, then tell us.

Scans go quiet between hubs more often than parcels go missing. If nothing has changed for a week, write to us with your order number: we open a case with the carrier and keep you posted until it is settled.

  • Tracking says delivered but I have nothing.Check with the household and the neighbors first, then write to us.

Carriers sometimes scan a parcel as delivered a few hours early, or leave it with a neighbor. If it has not appeared the next day, tell us: we open an investigation with the carrier, and once the loss is confirmed the refund follows within 3 to 7 business days.

  • I entered the wrong address.Write to us immediately — before the parcel leaves, if you can.

Once it has shipped we cannot recall it, and an address you entered is not something we can be held to. Redirecting a parcel is possible in some cases, at your cost.

  • My scarf arrived damaged, or it is the wrong one.Send us a photo and your order number.

A photo of the fault and one of the shipping label on the parcel are enough to open the file. You get a prepaid label and, once the parcel reaches us, a refund within 3 to 7 business days.

  • My parcel was lost or stolen in transit. We open the case, you do nothing.

We file with the carrier and keep you posted. When the loss is confirmed, the refund is processed within 3 to 7 business days.

Orders and payment

9 answers

Accounts, payment, discount codes, gifts and sold-out prints.

  • What can I pay with?Cards, plus the wallets that appear at checkout.

Major credit and debit cards, plus the express wallets your device supports — the ones available appear at checkout. Whatever you pay with is what a refund goes back to.

  • Is my payment secure?Payment runs through Shopify checkout. We never see your card number.

No one here can read, store or reuse your card details. We will also never ask you for a card number or a password by email — if a message does, it is not from us.

  • My payment was declined. That comes from your bank, not from us.

The usual cause is a billing address that does not match the card. Check it, then try another method. We never see the reason for a decline, so your bank is the only one who can tell you.

  • Can I cancel or change my order?Only before it enters fulfillment, so write straight away.

We aim to ship fast, which is exactly what makes changes hard. Email contact@silk-scarfs.com the moment you notice and we will do what we can. Once a parcel is packed, the answer is a return.

  • Do I need an account to order? No. You can check out as a guest.

An account only keeps your orders and their tracking in one place. Sign in later with the email you ordered with and your past orders appear.

  • When is my card charged? When you place the order.

Payment is taken at checkout, not when the parcel ships. If an order or an item is cancelled, the amount goes back to the same card or wallet.

  • How do discount codes work? One code per order, entered at checkout.

Type it in the discount field before you pay. Codes cannot be combined unless the offer says so, and a code cannot be added to an order once it is placed.

  • Can I send a scarf as a gift?Yes — ship it straight to the recipient.

Enter their name and address as the shipping address at checkout. We do not offer gift wrapping or printed gift messages for now. To send it back, they can follow “Can I return a gift?” under Returns and refunds.

  • Will a sold-out print come back?Sometimes — we cannot promise a date.

Some prints return with a later batch, others are one-off runs. Write to contact@silk-scarfs.com with the name of the print and we will tell you if it comes back.

Sizes and fit

5 answers

Four shapes, sizes in inches, and how to pick without guessing.

  • What sizes do you sell?Four shapes — and the square comes in three.

Skinny scarf 2 to 5 in (5 to 12 cm) wide, bandana 18 to 23 in (45 to 58 cm), square 23 to 51 in (59 to 129 cm) in three steps, and shawl 51 in (130 cm) and up. Every size, drawn to scale.

  • Are your sizes in inches or centimeters?Inches first, with the centimeters alongside.

Suppliers cut to the centimeter, so the inches land on halves — a 35.5 in square is cut at 90 cm. Both numbers describe the same scarf.

  • If I only buy one, which size? The 21 in (53 cm) bandana.

It knots at the neck, folds into a headband, ties as a kerchief at the nape and bows on a bag handle, and it is our most common size. Go up to 27.5 in (70 cm) for a wrap for the night, 35.5 in (90 cm) for a full head wrap, and 43.5 in (110 cm) or more if you mainly want it on your shoulders.

  • I am between two sizes.Take the larger one.

A knot eats an inch or two (2.5–5 cm), and a square that is slightly too big always folds smaller. The reverse is not true.

  • How do I measure a scarf I already own?Lay it flat and measure one side, corner to corner.

Measure the hem included, without stretching the cloth. Then match it against the bands in the size guide.

Silk, fiber and label

6 answers

What the cloth is, what the label says, and how to check it yourself.

  • Is this real silk?Every product page lists the fiber content.

Each product page lists the fiber in the Silk passport. A blend is always named as a blend — never as “silky” or “silk feel”. Read the fiber line, not the adjective. If your scarf does not match its page, contact us within the return window.

  • What is the difference between silk and satin?Silk is a fiber. Satin is a weave.

A satin scarf can be silk, polyester or a blend, which is why the word on its own tells you nothing. The label is what matters. How to read a label.

  • How can I check it myself?Feel, drape and the burn test on a loose thread.

Silk warms to the hand instead of staying cool, falls in soft folds rather than stiff ones, and a stray thread burns to a brittle ash that smells of hair. Polyester melts into a hard bead and smells of plastic.

  • Will the colors look like the photos?Very close, but every screen shows color a little differently.

Phone and computer screens shift reds and blues the most. The Colors line of the Silk passport names the main colors in words, so you are not relying on the screen alone. If the scarf you receive is clearly not the one on its page, contact us within the return window.

  • How is the hem finished?Only where the product page says so.

The hem is the finished edge you can feel along the border. We only describe how it is finished when our supplier confirms it, and only then does a Hem line appear in the Silk passport. Ask us before you order and we will check.

  • Is silk safe for sensitive skin, or around children?Silk is a natural protein fiber, printed with textile dyes.

We make no hypoallergenic claim, and no cloth suits everyone: if you get a reaction, stop wearing it, seek medical advice where that is warranted, and write to contact@silk-scarfs.com. A scarf is not a toy and not a sleep aid, and it is not intended for children under three.

Care and washing

6 answers

Washing, ironing, stains and storage, without ruining the silk.

  • How do I wash a silk scarf?Cold water, by hand, with a detergent made for silk or wool.

Never a biological detergent: its enzymes eat protein fibers, and silk is a protein fiber. Move the scarf through the water rather than rubbing it, rinse cold, and do not wring.

  • Can I put it in the machine, or have it dry-cleaned?Dry cleaning is safe. A machine is a risk we would not take.

Even a delicate cycle drags the cloth against the drum and the spin sets creases into the weave. If you must, use a mesh bag, cold water and no spin — and accept that the hem may never sit the same way again.

  • How do I dry and iron it?Flat, in the shade. Iron on low, on the reverse, while it is still damp.

Roll it in a towel to take the water out, then lay it flat — hanging it wet pulls the shape out. Sunlight fades silk faster than washing does.

  • Will it shrink, or will the colors run?Cold water and no wringing keep both from happening.

Wash a new scarf on its own the first time. Heat is what shrinks silk and what lifts dye, so the rule is the same for both: keep it cold.

  • I got perfume, deodorant or makeup on it.Act cold and act early.

Blot, never rub. Perfume and deodorant contain alcohol and salts that mark silk permanently once they dry, so spray before you tie the scarf, not after. A set stain is a job for a dry cleaner, not for a home remedy.

  • My scarf snagged. Is it faulty?A pulled thread from wear is not a defect.

Silk catches on rings, watch clasps and rough nails. Do not cut the loop: ease it back through to the reverse with a blunt needle. A fault present on arrival is a different matter — send us a photo.

Wearing and tying

4 answers

Which knot suits which size, and where the step-by-step guides live.

  • How do I tie a silk scarf?Roll it into a band first. A flat square slips, a rolled one holds all day.

That one habit fixes most knots. The step-by-step versions are in the tying guide.

  • Which knots work at which size? The size decides far more than the print does.

A skinny scarf goes on a bag handle, at the neck or round a ponytail. A bandana is a headband, a neck triangle or a kerchief. A 25.5 to 27.5 in (65 to 70 cm) square does the neck, the hair and the head; from 35.5 in (90 cm) it also ties as a knotted top or a belt. A shawl is worn open, on the shoulders. See each shape in use.

  • Can I sleep in a silk scarf?Plenty of people wrap their hair in one at night.

A 27.5 in (70 cm) square is enough to wrap the hair; take 35.5 in (90 cm) for long hair, curls or locs. Silk is smoother than cotton, so it drags less on the hair as you move. It is not sold as a sleep product, and it is not for children under three. The night wrap, step by step.

  • Will it damage my hair? The opposite is the usual reason to buy one.

Silk has less friction than cotton, so it pulls less at the cuticle. Tie it loosely: what damages hair is tension, not the cloth.
