A Black Jellyfish Print Silk Shawl Full of Sea Life

Blue and violet jellyfish trail their long tentacles across a black ground, surrounded by branching red coral, spotted white fish, orange starfish, shells and sea fans in green, yellow and pink. The pieces are packed so close that the black shows mostly between them, like deep water glimpsed through a reef. A fine black edge frames the square, and one corner turned back shows a much paler reverse.

Shoulder Wrap, Hood or Silk Scarf for Beach Days

Open as a triangle, it drapes over both shoulders with the point low at the front and soft folds gathered at the throat. Pulled up over the hair, it becomes a hood that falls open down the chest. Care instructions

Silk is a protein fiber. Treat it the way you treat hair.

  1. Hand wash, coldTwo minutes in cold water with a detergent made for silk or wool.
  2. Never a biological detergentIts enzymes break down protein, and silk is protein. No bleach either.
  3. Press, then dry flatRoll it in a towel to take the water out. Never wring it.
  4. Out of the sunDirect light fades dye. Dry it flat in the shade, not on a radiator.
  5. Iron damp, on the reverseLowest setting, no steam, and keep the iron off the hem.
  6. Store it loosely rolledRolled loosely in a drawer, away from light. A tight fold leaves a crease.

Dry cleaning works too: ask for silk, no solvent on the hem.
