An Orange Patchwork Floral Silk Shawl With Hearts and Daisies

A large patchwork shape curves across the orange ground, its pieces outlined with dashed lines that look like running stitches. Inside the patches sit yellow hearts, white daisies with red centers, crimson cross-stitch flowers and bands of zigzags and diamonds. Around it float loose sprigs, feathery leaves and a lily-like flower in pink and white. The edge is a narrow saffron band, and the corner turned back shows a faded, pale version of the print.

How to Drape This Silk Shawl for Women

Opened into a wide triangle, it settles over both shoulders with the point in front and the patchwork gathered softly at the neck. Brought up over the hair, it frames the face like a hood and falls open over a white top. Tied at the hip, it doubles as a sarong. More prints in these warm tones are in our orange silk scarves.

Strong oranges and reds may bleed during the first washes: wash it by itself in cold water with a few drops of silk shampoo, without soaking, then press it between two towels and let it rest flat out of direct light. Care instructions

Silk is a protein fiber. Treat it the way you treat hair.

  1. Hand wash, coldTwo minutes in cold water with a detergent made for silk or wool.
  2. Never a biological detergentIts enzymes break down protein, and silk is protein. No bleach either.
  3. Press, then dry flatRoll it in a towel to take the water out. Never wring it.
  4. Out of the sunDirect light fades dye. Dry it flat in the shade, not on a radiator.
  5. Iron damp, on the reverseLowest setting, no steam, and keep the iron off the hem.
  6. Store it loosely rolledRolled loosely in a drawer, away from light. A tight fold leaves a crease.

Dry cleaning works too: ask for silk, no solvent on the hem.
