A Cream Botanical Floral Silk Shawl With Red Tulips

Loose bouquets are scattered across a clean cream ground: red and yellow tulips, red and white lilies, poppies, daisies and small pink wild flowers, drawn with fine outlines and soft shading. Green stems and slim leaves hold each bouquet together, leaving open cream space between them. A navy band with a thin white line inside frames the shawl, and the folded corner shows the flowers again on a paler reverse.

Silk Shawl Draping: Shoulders, Waist, Hood

Spread over both shoulders as a triangle, it puts the bouquet of tulips at the point and a soft cowl at the neck. Wrapped around the hips and tied at the side, it becomes a floral sarong. Silk is a protein fiber. Treat it the way you treat hair.

  1. Hand wash, coldTwo minutes in cold water with a detergent made for silk or wool.
  2. Never a biological detergentIts enzymes break down protein, and silk is protein. No bleach either.
  3. Press, then dry flatRoll it in a towel to take the water out. Never wring it.
  4. Out of the sunDirect light fades dye. Dry it flat in the shade, not on a radiator.
  5. Iron damp, on the reverseLowest setting, no steam, and keep the iron off the hem.
  6. Store it loosely rolledRolled loosely in a drawer, away from light. A tight fold leaves a crease.

Dry cleaning works too: ask for silk, no solvent on the hem.
