Light Blue Butterfly Print Silk Bandana, a Garden by the Sea

Small butterflies in orange and pale blue flutter over a garden drawn in dots. A large round tree of green, white and yellow speckles fills the center, flanked by orange trees and white puffball trees. Around them, scalloped waves in cornflower blue roll across the ground, a soft sage field is flecked with white marks, and a pale gray patch is sprinkled with tiny flowers. A medium blue edge frames the square, and the reverse is lighter.

Headband, Kerchief or Neckerchief: Styling This Butterfly Silk Scarf

Fold it into a strip and knot it above one ear for a headband that leaves a low bun free. As a kerchief, it covers the hair and ties at the nape, with an orange butterfly showing on one of the tails. Care instructions

Silk is a protein fiber. Treat it the way you treat hair.

  1. Hand wash, coldTwo minutes in cold water with a detergent made for silk or wool.
  2. Never a biological detergentIts enzymes break down protein, and silk is protein. No bleach either.
  3. Press, then dry flatRoll it in a towel to take the water out. Never wring it.
  4. Out of the sunDirect light fades dye. Dry it flat in the shade, not on a radiator.
  5. Iron damp, on the reverseLowest setting, no steam, and keep the iron off the hem.
  6. Store it loosely rolledRolled loosely in a drawer, away from light. A tight fold leaves a crease.

Dry cleaning works too: ask for silk, no solvent on the hem.
