Blue Chain Print Silk Shawl With a Pink-Striped Border

Royal blue gives this version its crisp contrast. The color fills the central star, where pink and amber chain links circle a round medallion, and returns in a wide border with a pink stripe inside it. Between the two, blush straps with buckles cross the cream field among red and amber ribbon loops, inside a ring of beads and tiny flowers. Red horse-head tassels anchor the corners. The reverse is much lighter.

A Royal Blue Silk Scarf Worn Three Ways

Laid flat, it measures 51 × 51 in (130 × 130 cm), large enough to drape, wrap or tie at the waist. Strong blue can release a little dye at first, so rinse it separately by hand in cold, soapy water made with a silk-safe detergent, then leave it flat on a clean towel until dry. Care instructions

Silk is a protein fiber. Treat it the way you treat hair.

  1. Hand wash, coldTwo minutes in cold water with a detergent made for silk or wool.
  2. Never a biological detergentIts enzymes break down protein, and silk is protein. No bleach either.
  3. Press, then dry flatRoll it in a towel to take the water out. Never wring it.
  4. Out of the sunDirect light fades dye. Dry it flat in the shade, not on a radiator.
  5. Iron damp, on the reverseLowest setting, no steam, and keep the iron off the hem.
  6. Store it loosely rolledRolled loosely in a drawer, away from light. A tight fold leaves a crease.

Dry cleaning works too: ask for silk, no solvent on the hem.
