Cobalt and Cream: The Blue Jellyfish Print Silk Shawl

Here the whole reef is drawn in blues: a large cobalt jellyfish near the center, coral branches, sea fans, starfish and schools of small fish in shades from navy to pale sky, set on a warm cream ground. A few touches of leaf green, yellow and a pink-striped jellyfish break up the blue. A cobalt band printed with pale coral runs along the edges, and the turned-down corner reveals a softer, paler version of the print on the back.

Hood, Cowl or Wrap Skirt: a Blue and White Silk Scarf

Worn as a hood, the cream and cobalt silk covers the hair and drops open down the front, framing the face. Laid across the shoulders as a triangle, it forms a loose cowl at the neck and a long point in front. Wrapped around the hips, it becomes a sarong skirt with the big jellyfish at the front. Care instructions

Silk is a protein fiber. Treat it the way you treat hair.

  1. Hand wash, coldTwo minutes in cold water with a detergent made for silk or wool.
  2. Never a biological detergentIts enzymes break down protein, and silk is protein. No bleach either.
  3. Press, then dry flatRoll it in a towel to take the water out. Never wring it.
  4. Out of the sunDirect light fades dye. Dry it flat in the shade, not on a radiator.
  5. Iron damp, on the reverseLowest setting, no steam, and keep the iron off the hem.
  6. Store it loosely rolledRolled loosely in a drawer, away from light. A tight fold leaves a crease.

Dry cleaning works too: ask for silk, no solvent on the hem.
